Ranunculus ficaria ssp chrysocephalus 'Pencarn'

This interesting plant was photographed at Wisley. It is the only cultivar I know of that was selected from R.ficaria ssp chrysocephalus apart from the old 'Major', but with the resurgence of interest in Lesser Celandines, I am sure there will be others.

R.f.ssp chrysocephalus comes from the eastern mediterranean and is a tetraploid, which makes hybrids with the British forms unlikely.

The plant has silvery leaves and large flowers, typical of the subspecies, but with dark reverses.
