Tulipa montana Yellow Form

1st April 2012

A very pretty dwarf tulip, I was given a couple of pots of bulbs at an Alpine Garden Society show and tried them outside in a large tub where they have not prospered. Some time before December I must sort through the compost and move them into the greenhouse. I think they need a warm dry summer to recover.
The species grows in the mountains of Iran where the typical form is bright red. Ordinarily I would be attracted to bright red flowers but this soft yellow bloom has a cool charm that I am enjoying.
