A small growing species that I got from Chen Yi in China under the number T.317 collected at 1400m. It seems to be the same as the plant being distributed as
T. ichiangense. The large leaflets have a pretty silver mark on them. Plants of the World online says: "The native range of this species is China (C. Henan). It is a perennial and grows primarily in the temperate biome." My plant is substantially smaller than the description in the Flora of China which says: "Plants 0.8--1.5 m tall, glabrous. Stems few branched. Basal and proximal cauline leaves withered at anthesis. Distal cauline leaf petiole 0.9--4 cm; leaf blade 2- or 3-ternate, ca. 25 cm; leaflet blade orbicular or cordate, 4.4--8.5 × 4.2--8.5 cm, papery, base cuneate, rounded, or subcordate, apex obtuse, 3-lobed; lobes toothed; veins raised on both surfaces. Inflorescence paniculate, 30--40 cm; branches few, 2--8 cm, many flowered. Bracts triangular. Pedicel 4--6 mm. Sepals 4, deciduous, red tinged, elliptic; 3--4.5 × ca. 2.2 mm. Stamens ca. 35, ca. 6.5 mm; filament narrowly linear; anther narrowly oblong, ca. 2 mm, apex rounded. Carpels 3--9; style short; stigma persistent, 0.6--1 mm. Achenes sessile; body narrowly ovoid, ca. 4.5 mm; veins ca. 6, stout. Fl. Aug--Sep." An article in the Hardy Plant Society Hampshire Group Newsletter (Summer 2009) says: " T. honanense ‘Marble Leaf’ which has amazing foliage. Each large leaflet is rhombic, red or purple stained and marked with grey, mimicking a begonia. The flowers are fluffy pale lilac and Bob Brown says it is truly continuous from April to November but I have not had my plant long enough to confirm this. It is short, 30 cm in height, and was collected at 1400 m altitude in China." Plant Lust says: "Thalictrum honanense is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with blue, bronze, green, pink, purple and red foliage. In spring lavender and purple flowers emerge. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and even moisture - regular water. Does well in acidic, rich and well-drained soil." |
