Acanthus mollis 'Alba'
15th June 2010
There are a number of awkward corners in the garden where I need something strong and perennial
(and hopefully interesting) that will occupy space and stop anything else getting in.
I have been thinking about Acanthus and the only way to see if it will work is to try
- so I leapt on this when I was offered it.
I was promised that it is a pure white flowered form of the species which is usually shaded with brown-lilac.
It is very beautiful, but this promised to be fantastic. It has suffered a bit in the first winter
but I have high hopes for a mound of large shiny green leaves to support the towering spikes of
purest white flowers. The first stage in any plan is having a plan, and I am prepared
to be flexible about the outcome.
