Acer palmatum 'Kaba'

As a small plant, this had a rather droopy appearance, and I thought that it would end up weeping gently, but it has been vigorous, producing straight narrow branches at bouncy optimistic angles. The sort of mellow autumn orange that would be completely satisfying it the genus weren't capable of so much more.

Mr Maple says:

"Extremely rare Acer palmatum 'Kaba' from Hippopottering Nursery was found as a chance seedling in the U.K.. 'Kaba' has irregular sickle shape green leaves where each leaf has a unique character of its own. Fall color is typically red. Kaba' translates from Japanese to as " Hippopotamus", a nod to nursery that introduced this tree. 6-7ft and dense in 10 years."
