A compact twiggy grower. I was expecting a clear yellow colour in autumn, so this odd orange may not be typical. A compact grower forming a dense, rounded shrub up to 2m tall under exceptional circumstances. Gordon Harris says: "A dwarf clone which makes a shrubby plant with bright green attractive foliage turning yellow in autumn." Mr Maple says: "'Kashima' is small, rounded mushroom shape Japanese maple with yellow-green tones to the leaf in the early spring, with a pink toned margin to the new growth. The leaves on 'Kashima' mature to a lighter green than many other “hime” types. The branching on 'Kashima' is vigorous and grows horizontally with a very dense habit. Fall color on 'Kashima' is typically orange to red. 'Kashima' is often known as 'Kashima yatsubusa', the latter term simply stating the dwarf habit of this tree. 'Kashima' May reach 3-4 ft in height by 4-5 ft in width in 10 years. 'Kashima' is a great small tree for containers or bonsai." |
