Aechmea recurvata 'Paraguay'
28th March 2006
Aechmea recurvata has some more or less hardy forms, if it is kept dry, which means under
cover somewhere. This form from Paraguay is large growing with broad fleshy leaves, and it
hasn't taken recent winters all that well.

I was worried that this wouldn't be hardy enough to grow here, but it has prospered in a cold glasshouse and divided slowly.
It is now showing distinctively brown leaves and is much larger than the other forms I grow. I was having problems with it in the
early years and I think I was keeping it too shaded. Once it moved into full sun it prospered.

It is doing better in the Agave house where it is warm and dry with plenty of light.
