Agave ghiesbreghtii

1st March 2015

A clustering species from Guatemala and southern Mexico and at first sight, not one of the species most likely to tolerate low winter temperatures. However although technically it comes from the tropics it comes from an climate with an extremely dry winter and spring period.
I raised seed in 1993, and was sent a single offset in the same year. Although I now have two plants, I can't tell which is which.
Both have survived a series of harsh winters, sometimes thanks to the care and effort I have lavished on them, but more often despite being ignored or forgotten.
