Agave horrida perotensis
5th March 2011
A small non-suckering species closely allied to A.obscura. It grows on the lava fields of Morelos in Mexico
and Gentry decribes it as a 'formidable, bizarre succulent' adding that a number of pointless varieties have been named
and presumably this is one of them. I bought it last year and it has become evident that it does not like cold weather.

After a bad start and a series of hard winters, I am surprised I still have it. Clearly it is tougher than early indications suggested.
It is also a surprise to see it producing offsets around the base - the species is said to be tiresomely solitary right up to the point
of florescent auto-annihilation (flowers and dies).
