Every now and then I buy something growing in a pot, and don't immediately repot it. It is surprising how often that turns out to be a mistake.
This was growing so well when I got it, that I left it alone for the winter. When I finally got to it in the spring, most of the rhizome had rotted off. It turns
out that it was potted into one of those awful mixes of shredded tree and composted wit that the insufferably smug use to convince you of their green credentials. Green composts
are an excellent thing, and the first requirement is that they should work as composts! There are far less available that meet this simple criterion than the advertising materials
would have you believe.
