Alocasia macrorhizos




Fifteen years ago I bought a large plant of Alocasia macrorhizum at an auction,and it grew for a few years beside the heated bench in my propagation house. I got so used to its presence that I neglected to protect it in a particularly hard winter, and that was that.

This year I have replaced it with a young plant that is already growing vigorously in the conservatory, which I try to keep frost free.

I didn't keep it warm enough, and here are the consequences! Must try harder.

This is the plant growing a Kew - it shows how good it can be, but it takes continual warmth and humidity and unfortunately I cannot provide it!
