Supposedly coming from Borneo, this is quite a recent introducion to cultivation. It is not at all tolerant of cold, and seems to prefer high humidity. I have grown it for three years now without killing it, though I have come close every winter. It really needs a long hot summer to recover from the damage that winter does to it (even on a warm windowsill).
