A rather imposing biennial that I have grown on and off over the years. I got these plants to fill out the herbaceous border on the principle that space filled with leafy
stuff was saving me the trouble of weeding! It seems to have worked out. They will flower and seed next year, at which point I will reconsider their future.

It may be rather common, but there is something quite magnificent about the flower heads. There are rarer species available, but there is nothing better.
