A charming and common tuberous species from southeastern Europe and Turkey. In general terms the species is blue flowered but
many color selections exist. A great many have been named. This is a blue one, and the name may relate to a particular, select clone
or it may simply be a way of promising that the plants will be blue - selections such as "blue shades" are widely available
and do exactly that. The tubers are fat, truncated rhizomes which tolerate considerable dessication when dormant making them very
suitable for the bulb trade. They benefit from 24 hours soaking in a saucer of water before planting to ensure they have hydrated fully.
This one grows under an intersectional peony in a gritty soil in full sun and it seems to be happy enough.
