Ardisia japonica 'Ito Fukurin'
8th June 2014
A Japanese species of Ardisia where a number of cultivated forms have been selected (it also occurs in China and Korea and has naturalised
in parts of Florida). It should be one of the hardier members of the genus and this variegated form was bound to attract me. It has survived a couple of mild winters
in a pot in the Hedychium house and I am happy to let it get bigger in the pot. I don't think it will be a great success outside but eventually I might try a piece.
It suckers freely and is said to make good ground cover where it is hardy.
