Asplenium antiquum
8th October 2006
A broad leaved evergreen fern , allied to A.nidus. The strap shaped leaves form low growing dense rosettes.
Sometimes referred to as A.nidus 'Antiquum', the Japanese Birds Nest fern.

I have tried one outside following a comment online that it was hardier than A. nidus and it may well be, but it hasn't prospered.
I don't think winter cold is as much a problem as a shortage of summer heat to allow it to recover. In a cool summer it struggles to
produce many new leaves before the autumn. It survived two winters, growing smaller each year and then died.
