Astilbe 'Ice Cream'
18th July 2014
After languishing in the doldrums of taste for decades, modern breeders have picked up Astilbe, dusted them down and started to introduce
some excellent new seedlings. 'Ice Cream' escapes from the assumption that garden plants need to be compact to be successful. It is a great big thing and I suspect
that the breeder had an eye to a possible market as a cut flower when it was selected. There are a few forms now with tall stems and I find them appealing.
This one is currently growing in a pot but it will make a bold splash of colour when it finally gets out into the border.
