Asarum subglobosum

20th March 2006

An endangered species from southern Japan that is vigorous enough to make a good garden plant.

This plant, photographed at Wisley in February 2006, is an albino form with greenish white flowers. The typical form has greyish flowers.

I am told that the true species is evergreen and as you can see, this plant is deciduous. The first growth in spring produces the flowers.
