Aspidistra sichuanensis'China Moon'

17th April 2008

It is strange how much delight can be wrapped up in a small cluster of rather crumpled leaves!
In 1985, Jim Waddick in the USA collected this in the Qing Cheng San mountains in Sichuan (under the number QCS IIM-4). At the same time he introduced two others, 'China Star' and 'China Sun'.
In 1999 they came onto the market for the first time and I was able to obtain the other two, but this one eluded me, and I haven't seen it offered anywhere since. In spite of much searching, I wasn't able to find a supplier until Plant Delights Nursery were able to offer stock again last year!
