Aucuba japonica
26th January 2008
I was brought up to despise Aucuba, and I did a fair job of it for many years. It suffers from an association with gloomy Victorian shrubberies.
It has taken me a while to appreciate its obvious qualities. It is easy to grow, tolerates dry shade and makes a dense evergreen screen. This plant has
been through some difficulties over the years. I have dug it up and moved it, probably half a dozen times, but I think I am happy with it where it is now
(or it may be on the move again).
