Begonia 'Mother's Day'
15th August 2010
The biggest innovation in recent years among tuberous Begonia hybrids has been the introduction of scent.
As yet it is still unpredictable. In the scented strains, some plants smell of honey and cardboard and some are not scented.
I'm sure the breeders overlook the cardboard element, but it is there.
'Mother's Day' is a pale coloured strain. It isn't quite white and I think the strain promises pink as well
and it doesn't quite manage that either. The big boss of green flower parts in the centre of the flower
are probably the source of the smell. I quite like it, but I wouldn't give it to my mother.
