Billbergia nutans
1981
A tough little species that will grow in the garden, but looks a bit tatty, and is unlikely to
flower. Kept free of frost, or on a windowsill, it will grow vigorously and flower in
early summer.

After years of prevarication I have finally planted a big clump outside under the shelter of a large Acer.
I have learnt that rabbits will eat the leaves if they get the chance and that it is hardy enough to survive
a reasonable winter. If it produces decent flowers as well then I have been wasting greenhouse space for decades.
