Bletilla Yokohama 'AGS'
13th June 2007
A cultivated hybrid between B.striata and B.formosana. The latter parent is not particularly hardy, and the slight tenderness is passed on to this hybrid.
Very beautiful pale pink with slightly darker markings. This clone came from an Alpine Garden Society show earlier this year and I have labelled it 'AGS' to help me keep it distinct.

When I got it, this was a rather weak plant, and since I have killed hybrid Bletilla before, I was a little anxious, but it seems to be getting stronger.

The hybrid was first produced in 1956 by N.Suzuki and has been repeated many times since,
but there are now selected forms appearing on the market, as a consequence of micropropagation,
and if we are lucky there will soon be a host of new names to collect!
