Campanula pendula

Archive entry 19.06.11

A Campanula from the north Caucasus that had a long flowering period here. I bought it as from my local supermarket. Said to be very poisonous and cause severe rashes if touched, I was ignorant of the supposed risk and didn't notice any adverse effects.
As expected, it grew fast, flowered enthusiastically and then dropped dead. Plenty of seed was produced but I didn't see any seedlings.

D'Arcy and Everest say:

"Large white bells flowers of soft green foliage. This Biennial specimen will self seed in the border or large alpine garden. Leave the flower heads on to self seed around itself. In winter take away the old plant top and new seedlings will appear in spring."
