A splendid small straggling shrub from the Peruvian Andes. It isn't really hardy but it just about survives in a sheltered location in the far south-west. I have grown it for many years,
always in a cold greenhouse. It roots very easily from cuttings and that has been enough to save it on more than one occasion. To be honest, its "splendid" attributes are almost entirely
confined to the flowers. It does not produce them with great freedom or reliability for me.
I grow it in the Agave house where it endures the dry conditions, gets awful red spider infestation through the summer, and sprawls over the floor. I am now trying it in other locations
to see if I can find something that it prefers.
