Camellia sasangua 'Variegata'
18th February 2012
I have just bought this at a show and the nursery owner was surprised to sell anything so ugly (you can't help wondering
why he grew it in the first place). I like it but the variegation amuses me. I am not expecting to be stopped in my tracks, speechless with wonder
at any time. I will settle for some unnecessary flowers and the odd wry smile.

This may be the original Japanese cultiva of this name, introduced to cultivation in the west through the Veitch Nursery catalogue of 1867 (or it may be something much more recent).
