Camellia 'Winter's Toughie'

One of a series of hybrids produced by Dr William L. Ackerman in Ashton, Maryland, USA to resist winter conditions more successfully than traditional cultivars.
This was a cross between C. oleifera 'Plain Jane' and C. sasanqua 'Jean May' introduced in 2009. Ackerman noted that it had "exceptionally cold hardy flower buds:
moreso than most fall bloomers, including C. oleifera, which are not particularly resistant to severe cold".
