Chamaedorea microspadix
14th August 2010
A Mexican species of palm that has shown a tolerance of temperatures down to -7C. I bought a rather tatty
plant from a garden centre where it had been tested and suffered a little. In the last three years it has endured similar temperatures
through the winter but has had some warmth in the greenhouse in summer. It is making a slow recovery
and I think it is possible that it will be a success in the long term in the garden. It produces suckers freely
from the base and when I have a spare plant I will give it a try.

It is now growing in the Agave house where it is too dry to be entirely happy but warm enough to survive. I am looking for a moister location
in the hope of seeing it looking cheerful.
