From north west Hunnan, China. Grows in forests and valley streamsides, it seems to have done fairly well in the greenhouse here under the shade of a Dicksonia, but
I have yet to see the promised single purple flowers.

Flowers at last! I'm a little worried about the number of flower buds on the scape, but I'm choosing to ignore it at the moment!
