A deciduous species from China that I was sent from the USA. The dormant roots were rather bruised and have taken a couple of years to recover.
Every spring I get convinced that it has died, because it is very slow to emerge. I keep it in the greenhouse, so that it gets plenty of warmth during the summer.
Enormous flowers that come close to being spectacular!
