Conoclinium coelestinum
2nd December 2011
A vigorous herbaceous species from the eastern USA. It turns out that it is not as closely allied to Eupatorium
as we once thought (hurrah for modern genetic studies). In my mind it remains a Eupatorium so when I started planting
the larger species in the herbaceous border this was inevitably also included. It may be that it flowers so late in the season that I will wish I hadn't
but at present I am enjoying occasional lilac flowers at the end of autumn (and checking to see if the snowdrops are up yet).
