Convallaria majalis 'Bordeaux'
10th May 2009
New here this year, a cultivar selected for the cut flower trade. I bought it when the flower was just going over, so this is the best
picture I have at present.

Convallaria is a vigorous, spreading plant. During the 1600's it was called "Mayflower" and mnay be the thing remembered in the ship of that name
that sailed the seven seas, landed in the New World and we all know where it went from there (or it could have been Hawthorn). As I say, it spreads. 'Bordeaux' is almost certainly the same thing as 'Geant
de Bordeaux' , the name reflecting the long tradition of farming the plants for forcing around Nantes and Bordeaux.
