Cornus florida is not the most successful species for a mild wet climate. It produces occasional flowers and never manages any autumn colour, but it has the
uncooperative charm of an obstinate child refusing to hold your hand to cross the road.

My plant came as the typical form but I was delighted when it flowered and it became clear that it was the eastern Mexican subspecies C. f. ssp. urbiniana.
It has performed surprisingly well in the shelter of a large Magnolia.
