A planted quite a lot of Hazel when I moved into this garden, to make general purpose windbreaks, and for the most part they are just neutral filler, but occasionally
the sun catches the new growth, and they are as beautiful as anything in the garden.

Over the years I have enlarged the meadow and a couple of Hazels have been stranded in the middle. The original plan was to dig them out and they were cut down as part of the
process. I am still awaiting the "inspiration" required to dig the stumps out.

One of the early pleasures in the garden is waiting for the catkins to lengthen in the first sunshine of the new year.
