Colocasia aquatilis
17th August 2008
Colocasia aquatilis has been recorded (as Colocasia esculenta var aquatilis) from Bengal, Malaysia, Java, Japan, Papua New Quinea
ans Western Australia. It is thought to be the wild growing origin of the cultivated Taro, Colocasia esculenta. It differs from the cultivated
forms of Taro in having long stolons and low levels of starch in the main tuber.
I was given a plant earlier in the year, and it has grown vigorously. As always with Colocasia, the key point will be how well it survives the winter.
