Cussonia paniculata ssp. paniculata
5th July 2009
An Aralia relative from South Africa. This is supposed to be the hardier of the subspecies, but they are both on the edge of growable.
Mine is growing well in the conservatory, and I rather like it, so I may well root a cutting to try outside at some point. When raised from
seed they produce a warty caudex at ground level but not when raised from cuttings.
14th June 2011
Winter has killed the stems back repeatedly but a caudex formed and it regrew well once the spring weather warmed up.
Unfortunately the winter of 2012 was its last - I got fed up with the endless setbacks and left it to its own devices,
at which point it dropped dead.
