Disa crassicornis
20th March 2011
I find these sterile little tubs or orchid seedlings difficult to resist so these ones came home with me from a show.
The species grows at high altitudes (up to 2,700m) in the Drakensberg escarpment and will reportedly take several degrees of frost. I was late to prick them out -
I waited for them to grow a bit in the summer - and they were not very well established when winter hit. In a mild year I might have got away with it
but that isn't what happened. If I can replace the plants I will try again because it should be a good species for the greenhouse.
