A very pretty fern from New Zealand with red brown new growth. I was warned that it wasn't particularly hardy and needed to be dry in winter,
but I think I got a bit carried away in its first year, and managed to lose all the top growth to dessication, but fortunately it regrew in the spring. Now, it gets overhead protection
to keep the worst of the wet from it, but otherwise it is left to get on with it, and seems much happier. I am going to split it before I try one entirely outside, but I have a good location
ready, and high hopes.

I have a few sporelings that have popped up in odd pots but this year I planted my original plant out in a bed in the greenhouse where it was immediately happier. It is slowly making a clump
of shoots at the end of short stolons. The genus was named for Samuel Doody (1656- 1706), an apothecary from London and curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden from 1693 until his death.
