Dracula Jester
20th March 2011
This is the plant on the day I bought it, and looking back at it reminds me that I shouldn't fall for wonderful things
unless there is a chance that I will be able to grow them. Dracula is a genus of orchids closely related to
Masdevallia but they have a reputation for being more cold tolerant and easier to grow. I hoped that I could
grow it in a heated case through the winter and put it in the greenhouse for summer.
A Masdevallia would certainly not tolerate that sort of indignity, but perhaps a Dracula was worth trying.
In the event, Masdevallia and Dracula have a lot more in common than their reputations might suggest (it's dead).
Jester is a grex formed from the hybrid Dracula lotax x platycrater with creamy white triangular flowers
tipped with brown.
