Echium pininiana
28th July 2007
The giant Echium is a characteristic plant of many Cornish gardens. I have always had problems with it (too cold here) but I am hoping that global warming will now admit it to the garden.
This one is still looking good, and I am hoping for flowers and seed next year.

The flowers have been magnificent, and I hope they are the forerunners of a host of tiny seedlings.

Fortunately it is monocarpic or this would have finished it! Last time we had a winter this cold it killed all of the young plants and I lost it from the garden,
so I have my fingers crossed.

I had hoped that this seedling would replace my flowering plant, but unfortunately it was killed
in the winter. I am still hopeful that some seed has survived in the soil and will germinate in the spring.
