Echium wildpretii
Archive entry 03.05.15
12th June 2013
A marvellous red flowered perennial species from Tenerife. It is said to take about five degrees of frost
so I have planted it with the Agave and time will tell if it can make it through a winter.
This one might turn out to be a hybrid - it was grown from seed produced in a greenhouse in the UK that had other
species in flower at the same time. I have such a talent for killing Echium that it is unlikely to matter.
7th February 2014
The plant has grown vigorously and I hope for flowers next year.
6th June 2015
A short flower spike with red flowers that are a shade too close to pink for this to be the true species.
This is a hybrid and although I am sure it will try to seed around the Agave house, I am not inclined to allow it.
If any of the seedlings are movable it will be tried outside.
