Elaeagnus pungens 'Variegata'
15th March 2001
A rather old picture that has suffered a bit in the transfer from print to digital, but no matter.
When I moved into this garden there was a lot of space and a lot of wind, but little else. I had the chance to try
all the large wind tolerant shrubs I could imagine and so I went a little mad.
A wide range of Elaeagnus went in and did a good job of slowing the wind while trying a little too hard to
be decorative. When I was a teenager I had a penchant for tight trousers that were decorative but not decorative enough
(at least as an ensemble). I grew older, wiser and unfortunately fatter and (pardon the phrase) dropped the trousers.
I have slowly disposed of the Elaeagnus as well. This one made way for a new tool shed. It now houses
the spade I used to remove it.
