Epimedium 'Professor Ebert'
28th June 2009
First time flowering her, it is about three years old from a cutting. All of the Epiphyllum here are getting rather large
and I have to find a solution to the problems of wintering them safely.

The problem of overwintering has always been with us, it seems. 'Professor Ebert' was raised by
Curt Knebel in Germany. He started raising hybrids in 1926 and produced the first 'double flowered' forms,
which he hoped would be the forerunners of some good new hybrids. Some of his plants were sent to Californian growers,
but the majority seem to have perished in cold winters during the second World War when fuel for
heating greenhouses was unavailable.
