A small cactus species from Texas and northern Mexico. The subspecies E. m. ssp. greggii is the largest growing taxon in the species and comes from Northern Mexico where it grows in broken stone
on hills and low mountains. White flowers are produced in spring and early summer, to be followed by bright pink fruits.
