Epimedium 'Amber Queen'

12th May 2007

A new hybrid from Robin White of Blackthorn Nursery (E.flavum x E.wushanense). Deep yellow flowers, the back face of the sepals is red tinted, and the petals are speckled with red, particularly at the (distal) end. As a result, the freely produced flowers appear pale orange - amber is an excellent description. The freedom with which Epimediums hybridise make it inevitable that a great many more cultivars will be introduced over the next few years. It is to be hoped that they will be as well considered and trialled as this one before they are named.(Take a deep breath and smile, because they won't be!)
