Eryngium bourgatii 'Blue Form'
15th May 2010
This is a rather brief appearance. I am fond of Eryngium, but I prefer the shiny prickly Mediterranean
species like this but they don't like wet climates, and have always died quickly here. The large green
South American species do much better, but don't have the ruthless thistly appeal.

I had managed to convince myself that it would prosper if I grew it in a pot of sand. It came up into flower but died in the winter
so this is its last appearance.
I think I had the right idea, but the sand held too much water through the winter. Next time I try it I will use grit.
(There is bound to be a next time).
