Eryngium horridum

Another one of those Eryngium tragedies that have happened here. It made it as far as the herbaceous
border and I had high hopes for a tidy little clump the following spring but it wasn't to be.
The South American species are not especially hardy and this one died at the first breath of frost. To be fair, the first breath
was followed by a second breath and then by a short ice age. It didn't really stand a chance.
