Espostoa guentheri

A columnar cactus from a small area of Bolivia in the valley of the Rio Grande. The short lived white flowers are produced
from a brownish-red cephalium that forms on one side of the stem. Mine is a young seedling and it is unlikely
that it will make it to the flowering stage. Mature plants produce branches from the base - even more unlikely here.
It is an odd species in the genus, if only because the others all occur in Peru. There are occasional moves to create the
genus Vatricaria for it where it would be as snug as a cactus in a lycra onesie.
