Euphorbia bupleurifolia x susannae
6th September 2013
I have been planting some of the succulents in a bed in the greenhouse and I ran into this pretty little hybrid
in a local nursery. The right thing at the right time, so the outcome was inevitable.
I have seen it growing in the greenhouse of a friend locally who assures me that it gets no heat in the winter
and prospers but one persons 'no heat' can be another persons 'except for the electic heater, but that only
comes on if it gets cold'. I have planted it, I am enjoying it now, it might not be there next spring.
The chunky growth is inherited from E.susannae, which comes from the Cape region in South Africa.
It is dormant in winter and needs to be dry or it rots.
E.bupleirifolia comes from the Eastern Cape and provides the hybrid with the blue green leaves.
Neither species has a reputation for hardiness.
