Fagus sylvatica 'Purple Fountain'
25th November 2006
A tree that is precious to me. It manages to grow upright without help, and yet dangles with determination at the tip.

The inelegant stake is not there to support the plant, but to prevent me running into it with the mower! (I did something unspeakable to a white variegated Liquidambar
with a ride on lawnmower during a sneeze.)

Growing large enough now to mean I have to clear some overhead branches so that it continues to grow upright.
If it starts to lean at this age it might become a problem as it matures. It is making a leader by itself
and growing into a tall column, which makes it an improvement on 'Purpurea Pendula'.
Focus remains a problem - I point the camera at it and it moves! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
